The South Sudan Youth Reforms (SSYR) is a youth-led movement rising from the ashes of a wounded nation. Formed in the aftermath of continued injustice, systemic corruption, and ethnically charged violence, SSYR represents a new generation — one that refuses to inherit hate, silence, or stagnation.
South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, gained independence in 2011 with dreams of peace and prosperity. But only two years later, in December 2013, those hopes were shattered when state-sponsored violence erupted in the capital, Juba.
Under the leadership of the current regime, government-aligned forces targeted Nuer civilians, systematically executing men, women, and children based on their ethnicity. This brutal campaign spread from Juba to other states, triggering a civil war that displaced millions and cost hundreds of thousands of lives.
SSYR was born out of that pain — but also out of unshaken hope. We are a collective of young South Sudanese determined to:

But we will also not be trapped in cycles of revenge or fear.
We are the generation that must build bridges, restore trust, and transform South Sudan into a nation for all its people — regardless of tribe, language, or background.
