SSYR Rejects Proposed Resettlement of Palestinian Refugees in South Sudan
For Immediate Release
The South Sudan Youth Reforms (SSYR) strongly condemns and rejects any proposal, discussion, or arrangement aimed at resettling Palestinian refugees in South Sudan.
Our Position
South Sudan is a young nation still recovering from decades of war and ongoing instability. Our citizens face extreme hardship — with many displaced internally, widespread food insecurity, collapsing healthcare, and high unemployment. In this fragile state, any move to bring in large populations of foreign refugees without national consensus is reckless, unlawful, and against the interests of our people.
Why This Proposal is Wrong
- Violation of Sovereignty: Secret foreign deals undermine the sovereignty of the South Sudanese people and bypass democratic oversight.
- Humanitarian & Security Risks: South Sudan struggles to meet the needs of its own displaced citizens; adding another vulnerable population risks social tensions and instability.
- International Law Concerns: Forced or coerced relocation of Palestinian civilians would violate international humanitarian law and could amount to ethnic cleansing.
- No National Consent: The people of South Sudan were not consulted; this does not reflect our national interest or the will of our citizens.
Call to Action
- The African Union and IGAD should firmly oppose forced resettlement plans anywhere in Africa.
- The Transitional Government of National Unity must publicly reject these talks and focus on our people’s urgent needs.
- SSYR stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice, self-determination, and the right to remain in their homeland.
SSYR will mobilize youth across all states and administrative areas to protect the dignity, security, and sovereignty of our nation.
