Project Proposal 1: SSYR Youth Literacy & Education Empowerment Initiative

Background:
In many regions of South Sudan, especially Upper Nile, literacy rates remain critically low due to decades of conflict, lack of infrastructure, and government neglect. SSYR recognizes that empowering youth through literacy is essential to building a democratic, just, and peaceful nation.

Objective:
To provide community-based literacy and education support to youth aged 12–30 in remote and underserved areas of South Sudan.

Key Activities:

• Establish SSYR Reading Circles in each state capital and rural county centers.
• Distribute basic literacy kits (books, notebooks, pens) and work with partners for solar-powered reading lamps.
• Host weekend Literacy Bootcamps with volunteer teachers, local educators, and mentors.
• Mobilize community libraries with help from international partners and diaspora donations.

Expected Outcomes:

• Improved literacy skills among 5,000+ youth in 10 states within 2 years.
• Increased enrollment in adult education and secondary schools.
• Creation of a reading culture and youth-led book clubs.
