SSYR Press Statement on Supreme Airlines ICC Threat

For Immediate Release

The South Sudan Youth Reforms (SSYR) expresses deep concern over recent revelations that the Government of South Sudan may face legal action at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over an alleged USD 1.05 billion debt to South Supreme Airlines and its subsidiary, South Supreme Foods.

🚨 Why This Matters

  • This case risks further damaging South Sudan’s international reputation and investor confidence.
  • The debt reportedly stems from unpaid services during and after the civil war, including logistics, fuel, and food supplies.
  • Failure to address such debts undermines trust with local businesses, the private sector, and the global community.

📢 SSYR's Position

  • We call on the Government of South Sudan to immediately and transparently resolve this dispute through dialogue and lawful settlement mechanisms.
  • Youth livelihoods depend on a stable and accountable economic environment — massive debt scandals risk stalling development and job creation.
  • The government must respect contractual obligations and ensure fair treatment of all domestic businesses, avoiding costly international litigation.

SSYR will continue to advocate for transparency, fiscal responsibility, and respect for the rule of law to protect the future of South Sudan and its youth.
