SSYR Press Statement

For Immediate Release  |  August 8, 2025

South Sudan Youth Reforms Condemns Ugandan Military Aggression in Kajo‑Keji

The South Sudan Youth Reforms (SSYR) strongly condemns the repeated acts of aggression by the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) against the people of South Sudan in Kajo‑Keji County, Central Equatoria State.

On August 8, 2025, UPDF soldiers reportedly entered Merwa and Gorbeleng villages in Bori Boma, opening fire in communities with no police or military presence — only unarmed civilians and local leaders. This latest provocation comes less than two weeks after a deadly UPDF attack in Nyainga‑Muda village, which claimed the lives of five South Sudanese security personnel, including members of the SSPDF, prison services, and the police.

These unprovoked violations of our sovereignty are intolerable and unacceptable. They represent not only a threat to our territorial integrity but also an assault on the dignity and safety of our people.

Our Demands

Youth Stand in Solidarity

We, the youth of South Sudan, reject foreign military aggression in all its forms. We will not stand idle as our people are targeted, our borders violated, and our sovereignty undermined.

SSYR stands in full solidarity with the people of Kajo‑Keji and all border communities who live under constant threat. We affirm our readiness to support peaceful but firm measures to protect our land, our people, and our future.
