SSYR Press Statement: Support for AU's Call on UPDF Withdrawal from South Sudan
For Immediate Release
The South Sudan Youth Reforms (SSYR) welcomes and fully supports the African Union’s recent call for the immediate withdrawal of the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) from South Sudanese territory.
📢 SSYR’s Position
- The continued presence of UPDF forces in South Sudan is a violation of our sovereignty and undermines our national dignity.
- Cross-border attacks and occupation, such as those reported in Kajo-Keji County, have resulted in the loss of innocent South Sudanese lives and destruction of property.
- Diplomatic efforts must prioritize the safety, security, and rights of South Sudan’s citizens, especially those living along contested border areas.
🤝 Our Support for the African Union
SSYR recognizes the African Union’s vital role in promoting peace, security, and cooperation on the continent. We commend the AU’s firm stance against violations of territorial integrity and urge both Juba and Kampala to commit to a peaceful resolution through African-led mediation.
📌 Call to Action
- We urge the Government of South Sudan to stand united with the AU and demand the complete withdrawal of UPDF forces without delay.
- We call upon civil society, youth movements, and community leaders to raise awareness and advocate for the protection of South Sudan’s borders and people.
- We appeal to the international community to monitor and support these efforts, ensuring accountability and transparency.
South Sudanese sovereignty is non-negotiable. The future of our nation depends on upholding the principles of independence, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence with our neighbors.
